Pertronix Ignitor & Permatune CDI
 

Ok I've found some postings about this in the archive but I couldn't find any definite answers to my question. My early p-car has a Permatune unit in it and I'm thinking about doing away with points and installing the Pertronix Ignitor. Do these two kids play nice together or am I looking for trouble? Other than replacing the points, does the Ignitor offer any other benifits over points?

I do not know about the Pertronix but Crane has an optical replacement for the points. Last month their web site store had the model designed to work with the Permatune on sale for about $55.

Brad I think installing the ignitor would be a bit redundant as with the Permatune Ignition the points should not wear out and remain quite stable. This is from their website: "The 911E (this is what they call the box for early 911's) is designed for any engine with breaker point ignition and increases spark energy by a factor of ten. This is why spark plugs will never foul again, even when set to large spark plug gaps and will actually recover from fuel contamination. The Perma-Tune system uses the points only as a sensor so they will generally last the life of the engine. Dwell is not a factor, simply set the points to stock gap specifications and then adjust the engine timing using a timing light."
