Aftermarket Oil drain plug??
Has anyone used one of the aftermarket oil drain plugs?- an example can be found at: http://members.aol.com/qckchanger/
I have nothing to do with the company, etc, etc. This looks too good to be true-no more boiling hot oil spilling all over my arm, driveway and dog(don't ask). Any reason not to use it- I assume the oil will come out a little slower-- I wonder if the Niagra Falls effect I presently get when I remove the oil plug, which appears to be carefully engineered to allow oil to splash out of any pan, has some benificial use? The plugs are about $40 each- but lets see-I do 4-5 oil changes a year, and plan on keeping this car forever-price per use sounds ok to me. Question- anybody out there know the correct size and thread for the oilpan and case oil plugs on my 85 carrera-(Its not in Bentley)- I may give these a try Thanks Gary |

I woek in hte aircraft industry and we use plugs of this type all the time. They work great and are very easy to use, just make sure you use the dust cap

90% of the time, OEM parts are the best way to go. Whatever you do, don't buy an aftermarket drain plug with any sort of "quick release" arm, or valve lever. It will inevitably be knocked open by road debris, or simply vibrate open over time.
