Did pelican charge me too much for my chin spoiler?
Just ordered a chin spoiler to replace my chewed-up original for $280.00 from pelican parts. I then see an add for one in pano. for $189.00. What gives? Are these different spoilers? Is pelican's an oem spoiler and the one in pano not?

I'm not telling ya! Cause I didn't know about your wheels that you sold, and I wanted them.

That's pretty high. I just bought an OEM Porsche chin spoiler for $198, but the hardware installation kit was an additional $30. I would imagine you don't need the installation kit if you already have a spoiler on the car. Tweeks has these for $299 in their catalog by the way.
I've only owned my Porsche for a few months, but I'm beginning to realize that there are wild variations in pricing for the same part. I'm starting to have my mechanic order me some parts, as I just bought a turn signal switch from him for $74. Everywere I looked they were $99 and up. I have found that Pelican has good prices on some things, as I've purchased parts from them as well, but with the internet opening things up significantly, it's not hard to shop price. It's nearly impossible for one company to have the best price on everything. |

Thats a big difference.
Why dont you phone Pelican and ask? If you fell totally ripped off they might either refund the difference or allow you to return the part. Pelican an honourable company. I dont think they would want customers to feel cheated. Alex. |

The time to "shop prices" is before making a purchase. I don't think it shows much class to log on to Pelican Parts BBS and than complain about their prices. You should check out prices on the chin spoiler from others and if you think Pelican charged you too much, email or phone them. I am sure they will give you a competative price. This BBS provides a lot of great info on 911's and a chance to meet others with like interest. I appreciate Pelican Parts for hosting this site at their expense. Just my opinion.......

Cost should be evaluated by the value to the purchaser. Ask yourself, did I want the chin spoiler enough to pay $280? Obviously the answer is yes and you received the value item you wanted at a cost which you attributed to the value of the item. That in itself makes the cost reasonable and Pelican Parts provided a chin spoiler at a price that was equal to that which you deemed reasonable. Remember, everything is possible to get at a cheaper price, but you have to consider how long you want to look for something and how much time it costs you to find it at a "better" price.

This may be obvious, but selling Porsche parts is a very competitive business. Many if not most of the folks out there -- I think Pelican included, although I can't speak for them -- will try to meet or beat a (legitimate) competitor's price in order to get the sale. If they don't they may lose a customer, not just a few bones of margin on one transaction. It doesn't hurt to open your mouth and give it a shot. But I agree that any "haggling" should be done BEFORE you hand over your credit card...

Pelican Parts is great but their not always the cheapest, no one is. You have to shop around. I paid 189 for my new spoiler plus 30 for the kit. Ive seen them for the same price in many places also seen them much more. Depends when the vendor bought them and sometimes they get huge discounts for buying a bunch at a time. Atleast thats what I was told when I asked my other parts place.

1st let me say that I have spent a significant amount of money at pelican parts and I choose them first because they are a quality company and are easy to deal with. My question arose not because I was shopping AFTER the sale, but because I was reading panorama and just came across the add for the spoiler at $189.00. That was enough of a difference to question my purchase. My concern was really are the two spoilers exactly the same? Now someone else is saying they paid less at the local porsche dealer. I will check on that too and also talk to TOM at pelican and see if he is willing to adjust the price some. I'll let y'all know what happens.

o.k. Porsche dealer quoted me $425.00 retail-and my price , since I am a business, is $361.25. So, pelican is doing o.k. so far. BTW the $189.00 spoiler is from VERTEX-anyone ever bought from them?

I think it is also important to make sure you
are comparing "apples to apples" vs OEM to aftermarket prices on this chin spoiler! Lots of ads suck you in but the product isn't "The real thing"! Huey581 86' 911 Cab |

I was the one who bought the spoiler from a local dealer. With all due credit to Pelican, their prices are very competitive and most of their item are price equal to or slightly less than most mail-order companies. Now, the re are two local P-card dealers in my immediate vicinity and their prices differ wildly. One quoted $350 to $400 for the spoiler and the other quoted $270. The part came in a huge plastic bag with PORSCHE stamped all over it along with the official part number. The price was even better than Parts Heaven, which is another source for P-car parts around here.

My spoiler is factory original and fit perfect and I paid 189 plus 30 for the h-ware kit. I got mine from DC auto in Connecticut. Thats not a plug for DC auto but they sold me a OEM spoiler at that price. I buy from Pelican aswell and they have some good deals on many products too.

Vertex delivers. Just bought new oem Tensioners from them for $98 a piece. Yeah they charge 3% for credit cards but Stoddard wanted $245 a piece and I have a dealer account with them.. Give Vertex a shot, they have delivered on all claims in Pano and Excellence.
