Wheel/Tire question

Guys:

I would like to buy a set of 15" rims for my '89 and put some tires on that'll handle the wet weather. The 16" Fuchs on the car are shod with nearly new Proxes RA-1's, which are great in the dry but I don't want to run them in the wet.

What 15" rims are available that will fit? I have seen 'phone dials' and 'cookie cutters' fairly cheap- either would be fine- but I want to make sure the offset, width and bolt patterns are going to match before I buy. Also, which tires would you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Any early-offset wheels will work on an '89.

Porsche uses a unique bolt pattern- 5x130mm. 944 wheels are interchangable with 911 wheels.

I think the only wheels that came in both early and late offsets is the Phone Dials. All Fuchs and Cookie Cutters are early offset, and would fit fine. If you look around a bit, a set of Cookies can be had for $200.

Tires- Depends on the use- Street only, or any track events?

Dantilla:

Thanks for the info! If you wouldn't mind keeping your eyes open for a set, I'd appreciate it- probably more available where you are. As for tires, I want something that'll really move the water- these tires will be for street driving.

Cheers,

Paul.

I use Cookie Cutters when racing my 944. I've got a few sets with race tires on them. A friend took my extra set just a few days ago to begin racing next year.

I put Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3 tires on the Miata, and am very impressed with them in the rain. My wife didn't like driving the car before, as the tires would lock up very easily when braking in wet conditions. These tires totally transformed the wet performance of the car. They even have a bit more grip than I wanted when dry- It won't drift around corners like it used to.

Highly recommended. The Miata uses 195/50/15s.
