Idle Air Control Question

I started checking out my idle circuits in my 86 Carrera. Had hunting idle problem. Found the switch that pulls in the ICV not making contact. Fixed that, did all voltage checks and found them to be normal. Cleaned the IAC and reinstalled it. I could hear the piston move when I rattle it but could not detect movment through the hose inlets. I warmed up the engine, removed the top hose to the IAC and peered down into the inlet. The book says the piston should be half way across the inlet but mine did not move. I can feel the valve vibrating when its supposed to be working but I think its still not working properly. I has 12vdc at the pins on the IAC connector. Any ideas? I'm tempted to take it apart and try to fix it. Gotta go to a party, be back later. Gator

Gator,

Get some Ether (starter fluid) and check the 6 usual suspect culprits at the Intake Manifold and before the ICV for leaks, tighten/replace if needed.

When it hunts, take a screw driver and tap on the ICV (you ided it as IAC). If it clears up you may want to replace the ICV.

When you Multimeter the old ICV the center terminal plus any of the outer terminals must read a minimum of 20 OHMs. The two outer terminals must read 40 OHMs minimum. If you buy a new ICV meter test it too before you install it.

If your ICV does not do this already, you will notice the new ICV will at cold start idle at 1200 RPMs and drop to 770-800 RPMs in 30-45 seconds, the way it was designed to work. No more hunting.

Good Hunting, sorry for the pund :D
