Tilting of the guages??

This may be a dumb question but i notice that some people tilt there guages to the side, why is that. The only reason that i can think of is, well that i noticed is that when your going over 70mph you have to look over the steering wheel to see how much faster your going. Not sure if thats the reason or there might be somehting else to it.

i am sure every topic has been covered many times...should we make this a 'read only' forum at this point?

Most racers turn their gauges (gages) so that when the engine and ancillary equipment are all operating correctly, the indicators are in the vertical position. A mere glance is all it takes to ensure your equipment is doing what it's supposed to do. The tach, not so much as most have shift lights that tell them when to shift. Once all the other gages are turned, most just turn the tach so that the nominal shift point is vertical as well.

Use for street application? Not so much, but you can look cool and take an inordinate amount of time to explain it to all your friends thereby increasing your "cool" factor. Guess I'll shut up now as I've just proven (by this explanation) that I'm just an asshat.

It is real simple: to use the vertical orientation as an easy point of reference. This way, you can see it in your peripheral vision or at least very quickly, if you look down. The tach is a common one, so you shift when it hits vertical.

Not sure why zamir bothered to reply?

Making use of the search function is very helpful. I've found that I have to use various terms sometimes though to find what I'm seeking.
Welcome!

-rotate tach to have redline line up when needle is vertical.
-when 'busy' on track, one glance down will tell how far you're from upshift

Yup. I can directly read oil temp, oil pressure and the 30-130 range on the speedo, moving only my eyes.

Shift point is set to 12 o'clock on the tach - which you can see in your peripheral vision without taking your eyes off the road.

Looks quite funky at first, but makes perfect sense as soon as you sit in the driver's seat...

I do it for the simple reason that after I put a momo steering wheel on my car, I could not see the temperature gage, oil temperature and how fast I was going. My tach is the only guage that is still straight. Maybe I should change it to be a racer.

Ditto. when I bought my car, the gauges were tilted, which I thought was silly, so I straightened them all out.

Took about an hour to figure out above 60mph I couldn't see how fast I was going. Aftermarket steering wheel blocked them off. Tilted gauges back where they were. Cool.

'Search' is fantastic. More info than you can believe. Use it.

Well that's what I noticed recently. Guys post replies to queries that were not pertinent or helpful to the individual seeking help or assistance. Many members don't have the luxury of spending numerous hours infront of their computers (at home or during work hour) or simply not aware of the 'search' procedure.

Or maybe some guys just want to accumulate posts and not considering the substance of their replies. Remember we are in the technical forum section. My two-cents.

ZAMRIZ needs to chill alittle.

I see so many people who like to pull out the " Go do the search".

Is there something manuditory about the search?

It's not we al don't have time to answer the question.

Your on line. Killing time.

You have to respond with the search issue, why would you not respond with your answer.
It would probably take the dame amount of time.

If you don't have the time don't respond at all.

Just my rank.

Tilt the tach so the redline is straight up or almost straight up (easier on the brain/eyes) and tilt the speedo so you can read the numbers in the 50-80 range.

I know that you can pay (around $100 I think) to get the tach modified so that the scale is rotated when the tach is straight. I'm not sure if the same folks have a mod for the speedo or not.

I remember this started being a problem on the honda forum a while back. So they instituted a good guideline. If you are going to tell someone to 'search' or that the topic has been covered; provide a link. If not, don't post.

Exactly.

The 350mm Momo steering wheel blocks the oil temp gage and the 60+ range of the speedo. So rotated the gages to see them. Can see up to 110 on speedo. After that, it's irrelavent on the street or track

The tach points straight up for 6000 rpm. Redline just a little to the right of top dead center. (a little margin)

The only odd part is left hand turn signal points straight down, and right hand turn signal points straight up.

This is even better if you want to spend the cash.

Since my car was an '88 the redline was 6250. On the above tach, 6250 is close enough to vert for me. Besides, like someone else said, that gives you a little time buffer.

If you'd tilt the Ruf speedo, then you may as well just tilt the stock job and not spend the cash.

Or in other words, encourage them to not learn how to search by doing it for them. I hated it when I would ask my parents how to spell a word and they would say "look it up" but, it did teach me how to help myself (in a paper dictionary no less!).
Oh, the other point is "..If not, don't post". Then the new person wonders why the are being shunned.

I am an ex "Search-Nazi" and usually don't say anything. I still believe that a new person is far better off if they are encouraged to learn how to search the vast resources already available. I say that from personal experience of searching for many a moon (hours not pics on PPOT) on issues of interest to me.

Having said all that, sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for and/or we all need a fast answer once in a while. I do wish that we had a sticky on the forum explaining the ways to search and its value.
