Buyer beware!!

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this. However, I went to look at a 69 912 that is listed on ebay today. It was listed as "straight body" little to no rust etc... It has faded paint and what not from the pictures .. I was thinking PERFECT candidate for a 73 RS clone ..

Well I guess "straight body" has a lot of latitude for interpretation. This car had been hit so hard on the passenger side that the hood overlaps the top of the fender on that side. The whole passenger side looked like a scrub board. Just figured I would throw this out there in case any remote people were considering it.

I should have taken my camera so I could post close ups on the body lines.

The car is listed as "fairly straight and decent body". Seems to me the guy was trying to list the car with an honest and accurate description. But, I didnt meet the guy or look at the car.

Ok if "fairly straight and decent body" is the equivalant of would make an ok parts car then it was listed accurately.

It's called creative marketing, happens all the time. You guys need to relax more. It's not like he won't let the potential buyer see the car.

I wouldn't complain too much at the current price. An original 912 motor is worth some cash and the 2 door pockets would bring a grand on their own. He did say it was a fixer.

I agree about the engine and door pockets. If the bidding ends based off the description and the pictures (no close ups) one could be easily convinced to bid up to 7 - 8 K. Then a 1500 912 engine and 1K worth of door pockets wont go that far to recovering funds.

I know if I had bought this POS and I spent 1K to ship it half way around the country and it showed up needing a door, fender, frame machine work, and a new quarter I would be pissed. Just figured I would post this here to save someone some trouble.

I guess my assessment based on the pictures and the description was that I was going to look at a car that had a little bit of rust in the pans, rough interior, and had cheesy painted trim. I thought ok if I could get a straight chasis for this price and just fix the pans I would be happy. However, I was not expecting that 1 side had been hit by a truck and fixed by horribly.

Well, you make a good point, but straight a chassis in rough overall condition is an oxymoron for the most part, especially on the cheap.

I guess it works both ways. Drove the 911 to Houston this weekend, 19.8 mpg, to visit a buddy who just bought a non running 88 Lotus Espirit turbo on ebay. 24k and in imaculate shape inside and out. It had quit on the P/O and he had spent a fair amount on parts and could not get it running. His wife made him sell it. My friend paid 12 for it. It arrived on the transport Saturday night. We screwed around with it and found a blown fuse. Replaced the 50 CENT fuse and it fired right up.
