Posted last week about my clutch failure (88 carrera)

Myself along with 2 other Pelicans, Carerradan and 911-in-SC dropped the motor and trans today.
Here is what we found......but first the obligatory pic of me in the engine compartment.

Hopefully we can help you put it back in the week of Christmas. If you're not ready by then, maybe I'll be ready to drop mine by then. I'm really amazed at how easy it was to drop it. Then again, you did most of the work.

I take it the G50 fork and shaft update had never been performed. The pic clearly shows the needle bearings were grinding away on the shaft.

Had your clutch pedal been stiff for a long time before the failure? Thinking back, did your clutch pedal feel even more stiff just before everything broke? What was the mileage?

I haven't done the update on my 89 yet, and would be interested to know if the clutch pedal will give me a warning before the total failure.

I had a great time hanging out with you guys as always. KC's clutch has always felt much harder than mine, he did say it actually got much easier to push before it went to the floor and didn't come back. I am seriously considering dropping mine to clean it up and inspect the clutch fork as I don't know if mine has been updated. Thanks again KC for being the test run.

The update has not been done, looks like the first time the engine has been out. The car has 120k miles I bought it with 92k.

Yes the clutch has been stiff from day one, but I thought it was just a Porsche. HOwever thinking back, the clutch has not been consistent, mostly stiff but sometimes it wowld get easier for no reason. The 2 weeks before it broke it has been very easy and smoothe, sounds crazy but that's what I had noticed.
I hope that answers your question about giving a warning, I just did not know it was a warning.

I don't want to de-rail, however, what kind of shop light is the one in the picture? I'm looking for a dozen or so of something like that for my garage.

you are lucky... no broken ears on the tranny... put in the no drill kit and update all the parts e.g. fork, tube, and whatever else you like.. our host sells the all the stuff

Scott, those lights are just 4 tube flourscents. Got them for $2 (yes two) each. They had been removed from one of Duke energy's facilities and were waiting to be trashed and I rescued them. I think you can buy somethinf like them at Lowes or HOme Depot for around $50 each.

I use the same fluorescent fixtures. They're ng during cold winters up here. I researched cold weather fluorescents w/necessary fixtures for noticeably more $.

They looked commercial to me and that's why I was interested, I'm always looking for some "rescue" lighting fixtures, thanks. as far as the cold goes, my garage is heated so it's no big deal.
