Oil Leak from Previous Owner Fix

Well I have run into my first problem with my winter engine maintenance project. As you can see from the photo, the previous owner apparently had some kind of problem around and below the pulley. About one inch below the pulley oil is very slowly oozing out. I knew before I pulled the engine there was an oil leak, but I thought it was the pulley seal. Now the question is, can I fix the leak without major surgery? My plan is to rough up what looks like epoxy, grind a small groove along the crack in the epoxy, clean with brake cleaner, quickly dry with heat and then use JB weld over the crack and hope for the best. What is the consensus on the group with this idea?

Oh that thing that looks like a chain just above the pulley mount is the strap on my camera. If there are no good suggestions for a fix, maybe I should just install a small block chevy engine

It looks to me that you are leaking from the case halves. Probably nothing short of splitting the cases and resealing them will fix that. Any thing else will probably be as effective as the previous fix. Did you notice all the probably's?

Kurt,

I forget now why you took the engine out, but go ahead and clean up the area and put the JB on it ... and plan on doing it twice a year, and it can be done over with the engine in the car!
