Bare Metal Repaint - so far
Well, after allot of time this fall, I've almost got it 100% stripped to bare metal. I finished the door jams this past weekend. Have done this all by hand, so it's not a though as a acid dip or something more exotic along those lines. I've used everything at my disposal to include a 7in Makita polisher /grinder with 80 grit disks, air powered angle die grinder with 2 in sander pads and surface prep pads, aircraft stripper (messy), dremel tool with barrel sanders, wire brush, you name it! Oh ya, a 4 in high-speed grinder with various strippewr pads…. This 70 911T was originally green, at one time went red, and lastly black metallic which is what I plan to go back with. At any rate, there was about eleven layers of paint and primer......

Also had a similar repair on both doors at front lower corners. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll use some Rage Extreme body plastic to cover. I stripped the 36 year old rear lid hinges to bare metal and really like the look. I may spray with clear and leave them looking like this. ![]()

WOW- how did you keep your garage so clean? How many hours did it take?
Did you do the trunk? I cleaned my wheel wells and painted those, too. I used solvents to clean the dirt, tar, grease, etc from the wheel wells. I removed only the undercoating which was shot. Most of it was in great shape. Will you be doing the trunk and engine bay? I'm sure you will be very happy as a result of your hard work. Doug
