How to remove an odometer

Hi could really use some help on how to remove the odometer from my 81 SC.

Thanks,

The whole gauge pops out if you carefully pull it out towards the back of the car. The gauge comes apart after loosening the flathead screws, but the odometer itself is pretty hard to separate or repair without completely disassembling the entire mechanism with special tools and expertise.

I was trying to repair a simple stubborn gear on my trip meter, but left it alone after I got the feeling that one wrong move would have resulted in the need for a total rebuild by a professional.

A trick: if the speedometer unit is stuck in place, remove one of the adjacent gauges (preferably the tach) and use the hole to reach through and over so you can push the speedo out.
