Heater/blower C2
Fan motor failed.. poppoed fuses. We found the bushing at the squirrel cage fan end to be worn and oversize. Machined a new bushing and it seemed fine. However when the fan turned on, it drew enough current to cause a slight drop in engine idle speed. Finally blew another fuse.
Question: What is it specifically that causes the motor to draw more amperage. Is it repairable or an internal fault? |

Not sure about your question, but found one for $40...pretty cheap to simply replace it.

There was a factory buletin issued in 91 that increased the fuse rating from 25A to 30A. Which fuse are you currently using?

Fixed it. Tore it apart and found the fan end bushing worn with shaft flopping within. Removed the bushing and machined a new one out of solid brass. Reinstalled it, lubed the felt washer with oil and graphite grease and away she goes. The fuse was a 30 so someone must have read the bulletin.
Seems foolish to design a unit with bushings instead of bearings for that hostile environment. |
