Thanks to all the experts and SWEPCO question

Fisrt - a big thank you to all the knowledgeable advice given on this board. I hope I can contribute in the future as I get more experience with the car.

I just purchased some SWEPCO 201 80-90W and plan to do the flush then fill with the blue magic, stinky juice. I will also be replacing the bushings and adjusting the linkage.

Question - Warren states that straight 90W should be used, but SWEPCO told me that 80-90W would work just as good. The two sources I contacted only had 80-90W. So I got the 80-90W. What has been others experience? Am I the only one about to use 80-90W (newbie initiation:confused ?

Thanks,
Mike

PS - working on your heel/toe and double clutching exercises and it works! Warren - I'm finding my 915's rhythmn.......

Mike,

No, you are not alone, I am one of the few that has used the Swepco 201 in 90 wt. ... the vast majority are using the blue 80W90.

When I began advocating the SAE 90 grade, I had only seen SAE 90 recommended by Porsche, for example, in the last SC spec book, '82-'83, dated September 30, 1987. By that time there were many multi-weight gear oils available, so I presumed there must have been a good reason to continue to use 'straight' SAE 90 in the factory fill. Then the Bentley manual came out, and it recommended only SAE 90 be used in the introductory section on general maintenance ... followed by a recommendation for only SAE 75W90 over in the transmission section of the manual, and nowhere in Bentley are both grades mentioned as alternatives. Somewhat confusing!!! Just recently, I got a spec book for the '84-'89 Carreras. And it did the same thing ... SAE 90 on p. 19, and SAE 75W90 on page 122. So which is right, one or both? I don't know, but I do know that SAE 90 works well! And, the 75W90 probably works OK, too. It would have been nice if the Bentley author(s) had noted the discrepancy!
