930 crankshaft end float spec

After disassembling the engine (930 3.3) to install some camshafts, my wrench has discovered what seems to be a large amount of crankshaft end float. When measured at the flywheel end, there is between 0.3 to 0.45mm of free play when the crank is pushed and pulled in the block. Can anyone here help and give me the factory specifications for this measurement. It also goes "thunk-thunk" when the crank is pushed and pulled. What would happen if I assemble it back w/o opening the case - I want to avoid the extra cost. It doesn't leak oil around the flywheel or the pulley ends of the crankcase. Help?

Help anyone? Maybe its the same as an SC. Is 0.4mm too much play??

According to my Tech. Spec. which is only good thru '77. the max. axial play is .30 mm
