Project success
With a smog check coming, I purchased a catalytic converter from a Pelican a while back. Because of the Thanksgiving holidays, I was able to string several days off together.
A "while you're in there" scheme with the purchase of some parts from Wayne added to the adventure. I purchased a set of upper and lower valve cover gaskets because mine were leaking and I could not stand it anymore. I bought spark plugs and the "T-handle" similar to the one that comes from the original tool kit. After researching this board and taking the advice of several members, I purchased some "PB Blaster" and soaked the exhaust bolts for several days prior to my mission. After a whole lot of muscle, the bolts submitted to my efforts. I found the rubber hangars supporting the muffler were torn. My 11 year old son and I removed the valve covers. It was very cool watching him ratchet away under the Porsche laying on the creeper. We carefully cleaned everything, painted the covers, and sanded the "PORSCHE" and ribs of the Turbo covers as detailed in Wayne's "How To Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines." It was a great project. We buttoned everything back up with minimal problems and had a great time. Thanks again to this board, the combined wisdom, and Wayne's book. David
