ROW (rest of world meaning)
 

Hi All
Does ROW include Canada or exclude it. I understand ROW as anything other than North America. Others have told me it is anything other than United States.

Please Clarify Thanks

Everything I've seen breaks them down to U.S., Canada, Japan, and RoW.

From the "Red Book" "Because emissions, noise and/or safety laws have varied between countries at times, Porsche has built cars that are specific to meeting those laws. This has been particularly the case for cars delivered to the United States and Canada. Cars not identified for a specific country are referred to as Rest of the World (RoW) models."

I purchased a Canadian 1995 993 3.6 engine for a transplant to my 914. Steve Wong identified the DME number as a ROW number. So its my understanding that it is US and ROW.

Kurt's answer makes a lot of sense, it implies that the factory shipped RoW wherever they didn't have to come up with a version specific to a country. And rationalised when they could, which makes a lot of sense from a production standpoint.

Canadian 930's were fitted with RoW motor types (including ignition and emissions equipment), although they had VINs and other things in the US style.

California 930's were distinct from US cars for 78-79. They were just "USA" cars 86-on (after they started importing again).

Japan was originally a separate market for 930's with specific motor types and emissions equipment. I'm guessing (but don't know for sure) that they probably got folded into the later US 930 type (930/68).

You might get better answers if you were more specific regarding the particular period/models you were concerned with, and possibly why... :)
