c2 turbo install Question in 86 chasis
 

Hello I have a couple of questions, when installing a c2 turbo motor in a 1986 911 turbo chassis ... first I would like to use my 86 wire harness, I noticed that the oil pressure switch location is different, the oil thermostat is also different on the latter motor, and the dist on the latter motor in mechanical advance. will this work well or do I need to use the early dist? and lastly ...is there any advantaged of removing the black valve box under the inter cooler, and mounting the inter cooler directly to the throttle body? The C2T engine doesnt have the 'black box' under the intercooler, and it has electronic spark control with a crank sensor on the flywheel.

That 9 pound casting is a 930 pop-off and recirculation valve assembly. Most consider it immensely over-engineered.

As tattlsnak says, none of the C2T's have that unit. Most aftermarket intercooler systems for 930's replace it with the 965/C2T recirc valve and a rubber intercooler elbow which weighs ounces. The plastic Bosch valve has a bad rep for being cheaply made, not working well when new and not leasting 10 minutes.

The (strippable, rebuildable) billet replacements cost about twice as much, respond faster and hold boost better than either factory system. When I got my Kokeln, I held the Bosch item in my hand for about a minute looking at it, then went straight indoors and bought a Forge Motorsports replacement from Ebay...

The factory 965 intercooler has fittings to take the (over)boost switch and boost sensor. Most aftermarket 930 replacements (Ruf, B&B, Kokeln) use the same system.

There's so much extra volume in the intake system (with the plumbing and the intercooler) that you don't need the pop-off valve, so the factory got rid of it for the 965. It's just another maintainance item, too. If you hear it clicking at idle, the seals are worn and it's gonna be leaking boost...

Thank you , I noticed the difference between the 86 items and the newer, what dist would turn the same direction as the 86? or do I have to go with a , crank t system ?
