Radio Install - Becker/Porsche CDR220

I just took delivery of a Becker - Porsche CDR220 radio and noticed that it didn't include a slider (metal box that clips into dash to support radio). Anyone know if I need one to install this radio, or does it just plunk into the hole in the dash?

I don't have the original Bluapunkt for my 84-911, so I have no idea if a slider (also known as a DIN cage) is required for these cars.

Anyone?

I've not seen a DIN radio yet that didn't need one.

Becker

I have the same radio and my car is a 1985 911 carrera.

There's no need for a DIN cage. You can adjust the Becker radio and then it just clicks in.

Keith,

You sure about that? How would you secure it to the hole in the dash of an early car without one? What would the locking tabs on the sides engage?

I don't think I used a cage. When you install it and can't see the screen, You can send the face plate to becker and they will reverse the colors so you can see it. Much nicer. Also If you can get the amp that goes with it, Works sweet

Really? And it doesn't flop around when you hit bumps? Do the side tabs lock onto the dash opening? I didn't notice any adjustments on the radio?

Any chance of taking a photo from the underside?

For the adventurous you can do this yourself by simply rotating the polarizing layer that covers the LCD. I've done it on multiple devices including one of my g-shock watches.

Absolutely sure the unit should slide in just like that.
Kept in place by the 2 springloaded flaps on the sides of the radio.
I made a bracket to support the bottom of the radio to make it more stable.

I have a Solisto added to my unit: this is a device that you connect to the CD changer port of the unit and allows you to play MP3 files from an USB stick.
You control the Solisto identical to a CD changer from the frontpanel of the radio.
Superb thing. For details drop an email at info@solisto.nl, guys are very helpful.

Since, obviously, there's a difference of opinion as to whether you should have a cage, my suggestion would be to call the service department at Becker North America. They're usually very helpful.

You are correct, Radio went in with no need of a DIN sleeve. Matter of fact, a DIN sleeve will not fit this Becker. The OD of the Becker has the same dimensions as a DIN sleeve OD. I didn't seed to fab a bottom bracket. It's pretty snug the way she is.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Solisto.

Ciao,

T...
