Gentlemen,
Lately I have become enthralled about how good my '83 911 would look with a Carrera RS tail on it. I really like the compact, not too gaudy look, it delivers. My question to you PelicanHeads is, has anyone out there purchased an aftermarket RS America tail? If so, for how much? What is involved in mounting it? What's the quality like? Were exactly did you purchase it? I have seen these beauties advertised on Excellence for prices ranging from $265.00 - $400.00. I am wondering what's the difference in price? Also, how do you Porsche afficionados think my humble '83 will look with a tail? Thanks, Rich |

Rich, I have an RS American wing on my 81 911SC. I got it from Better Bodies for around $400. It bolts on easy (remove the stock grill and drill a few holes). It paints up nice. The wing does not come with a grill insert, but you can make one yourself by going to a hardware store and buying some mesh metal stock. Then just cut the material to size and paint it if you like.
The one thing to be careful of, is you will get alot of down force on the rear wheels that should be matched in some way up front. If you don't, the car will be unsettled at high speeds and will have a lot of understear. I have a compleat C2 kit on my SC. The front bumper has spoilers on each side that compensate for a rear wing. The car is glued to the track at high speeds (125 MPH plus) and only pushes slightly. Just my experiance Paul 81 911SC/RS American conversion |

Wings can be an esthetic and functional addition to your car, but pay attention to the weight issue, they are additional mass in the wrong spot. Carbon fiber is an ideal material in this application because of its low weight, it is not so good for front spoilers because of its susceptibility to punctures.
