Where to connect remote starter switch
 

I purchased a remote starter switch and the instructions say: "connect from the positive battery terminal to the energizing terminal of solenoid".

The wires on it are about 2 feet each. Where would the best place be to connect it? Can I avoid getting under the car? Does the solenoid terminal end up anywhere near the engine compartment?

If your remote starter is the occasional "tune up" type and not a permanent on board engine starter then the following is probably correct:

If I remember correctly, there are only 2 terminals on your starter. The larger terminal and thick wire is 12 volt positive and the smaller wire energizes the solenoid, this wire is normally energized when you turn the key. In your case, you would attach one wire from your remote starter to the large wire lug on the starter and the other wire to where the the small wire attaches to your starter. When you activate the remote starter, that will pass 12 volts to the solenoid and cause the starter to turn. If you want the engine to start, then the key will have to be in the on position.

The small wire is yellow at the solenoid. It's the same one at the ignition switch to energize the solenoid.

A remote starter seems like a recipe for trouble. I suppose if you are afraid of someone blowing you up with a bomb wired to your car it might be worth the trouble though.
