9" Fuchs . . . tires for . . . .

tires for 9" Fuchs . . . . . . .

For those of you that have done some 16" tire research, I have a question. I am about to install 9" Fuchs on my car and wanted to buy a low profile and the widest tire available. As I understand 16" tire selections are limited. I have 8" Fuchs on my SC now and running those 245-45x16" tires, which look kind of narrow. I think I saw some 275-45x16's at the Tire Rack magazine listing manufactured by Hoosier. Has anybody used these?? . . . or does anyone know the measurements of these?? I'm not even sure if this is the correct size I've noted. Does anyone out there have any leads on other sources for 16" tires?? Thanks to anyone that can help.

for street tires I think 245s are as good as it gets. Hoosier may make a track tire that is wider.

ps, please send your 8s to me when you put on the 9s.

I have Kumho 265-45's on my 9" Fuchs. These are the V700 Victoracers, not street tires. I don't know about street tires. The 265's look great on the 9" Fuchs.

They MAY fit...Hoosier likes to be kinda loose with size interpretation.

MY opinion is that 9s and anything bigger than 245/45s won't fit on an SC....taking the spacer off on a 930....should be OK....

Here is a pic of the 265s on 9" Fuchs. 1982 SC, no rubbing.

9" Fuchs

MIKEZ: I need to mention that these 9" are for my '79 930 rears, where there is ample room for wider tires.

SSCATES: thanks for the info on the 265's & I did go to the Kuhmo site to view. What kind of miles of tire life do u think I could get if I used these on the street? The compound is soft? I estimate I could probably get about 5k to 6k miles if that. Have u looked at other brands before choosing the Kuhmo's?

Thanks,
Hz

Hv,

My car is track specific and not driven on the street, so I can't give you any advice on street mileage out of these tires. I can't imagine it would be very good at all. They are very soft and come off the track with the melted look and any debris sticking to them. Not a good street tire I would think. My car came with a couple sets of these, thus I didn't choose them (just using them up). I believe that they are being discontinued. I am currently doing some research to figure out what is the best track specific tire.

Like I said, should be OK on a 930, your post was a little unclear which ride you were talking about.

I owned a 79 for a short time. The STOCK rear tire was a 225...yikes. Porsche put a spacer block on the rears to widen the track....you should be able to get 315s in there without the spacer, "if" it will fit on a 9...if not, consider having a wider custom Lindsey wheel made with a Fuch face....

I did quite a bit of searching recently for a tire for my custom 16x10" fuchs, and the Kumho mentioned above was the only 16" tire wider than a 245 ( short of the hooiser which has no tread ). I'll be running the V700 265/45's and my car will see about 50/50 street and track. As I only do about 3000 miles a year I think they'll be fine..

Tires for 9" Fuchs
The old '84-'88 Corvettes ran 255/50x16's which can be still had. Has anyone run these on the Porsche 8 or 9 Fuchs? And as I've found out BF Goodrich had P265/50x16 . . . are these too tall or? If anyone has experience with these, can you post a pic?

Thanks,
Hz
