Safe Spark plugs for ROW SC 3.0

The [U]Technical Specifications[U] calls for Bosch WR3CC for the '83 ROW SC instead of the WR5DC for the US version. The WR3CC has a lower profile for the electrodes than the US standard (that's what the first "C" in the label indicates.) Both have the same thread length. Is it safe to use the US spec plug in the higher compression ROW engine. My concern is interference at TDC. I suspect that most ROW '81-'83 SC's are running the WR5DC without problem but I wouldn't be on this board if I didn't have a bit of the anal Porsche nut in me.
thanks,
Russell

Russell,

Here is what I found in earlier posts about this: one of several recommended plugs is the NGK BP7ES, which you can get from Pelican. I just put these in my 81 ROW, so I can't comment any further on them. I can tell you that my car had the WR5DP (platinum version) since I bought it and I put on 8k with them. Can't really complain at all about them. When I tore the motor down recently there were no indication of clearance issues, although the plugs themselves were pretty sooty. Could be a mixture problem as easily as a plug problem.

I think you will find the recommended plugs are pretty expensive, which led to my search for something cheaper and move available.

I'm guessing that the "3" indicated a cooler plug than the "5". I wouldn't want to run a hotter plug than recommended on a higher compression air cooled motor.

Jerry

For those who looked earlier, I had the wrong number for my old plugs. They were WR5DP.
