from 901 sporto to a 915, help!!

I am going to install a 915 that I have in my 2.2L with a sportomatic transmission. Can anyone give me any advise and hit on one of these points.

1) are axle's different size
2) I have a flywheel from a 2.4 liter will it fit.
3) what about the pressure plate and clutch.

thanks for now

The axle flanges might be a different size. Make sure you get the big axle flange on the tranny. You don't say what year your 2.2 is, but you might be able to use the flywheel from the 2.4. But the clutch and pressure plate has to be the match to the tranny, not the engine. So get the corresponding clutch kit to the transmission and cross your fingers with your flywheel.

bb,

What year and 'type number' 915 do you have? The type number is stamped on the bottom rib not far from the center, and is of the form 915/xx. The serial number, nearby, would tell what year it is.

you will also need to do several other things for the 915 conversion 1) pedal assembly- switch to 72-76 911 manual trans type. Important that you check the clutch cable operating shaft. It should be compatible for the year trans you are installing. If the lever arm is too short on the clutch shaft, your clutch won't "work" 2) check shifter shaft length in the tunnel vs. 72-86 911 shaft. They should be the same length. As I recall the early shafts (901) were a couple of inches longer, You can easily shorten it to the correct length. 3) Install the 915 flywheel, clutch pack, and ring gear- 72-86 will fit 4) Remove the sporto pump from the cam housing and plug off with cap from the guys that sell the 3.6 power steering pump block off cap- same sizes. 5)Remove the vacumn tank and plug off the pipes in the intake manifold 6) Install a 73-86 915 shifter housing- the 72 is a mop in the bucket 7) block off the oil return line from the tran pump to the oil tank. 8) Check throttle rod length- again the 901 and 915 are different 9) Remove wiring specific to sporto and disconnect from rear compartment panel. 10) Install clutch cable compatible with 915 trans model. Don't forget to get a new clevis and clip too 11) Install the correct pedal board for manual trans and adjust full throttle position stop- I can't tell you how many people got involuntary "Full throttle cruise control" because they did not do this! Nader would have a field day!!
12) Double check torque on your axles after 30 minutes of driving
13) Check fluid levels, top off, and enjoy

No, that is just a casting number! The nubers I spoke of are hand stamped by a person at the factory on one of the reinforcement ribs!
