Need help on backdating heater
 

I have an 86 I want to backdate the heating.

I want to use this:

and connect a hose form it down to my heat exchangers.

Is this the right piece and what kind of hose should I use?

I need to clarify - is this the piece that goes to the left of the fan that you would otherwise put an air block off plate.

I am going to be backdating my heat this winter, and have received the parts from PP. I think that indeed is the same duct as I ordered for the left side. I'm going to be fitting SSIs and have ordered the hose with part number 901-211-194-00-M93 from PP for this. If you are using SSIs I guess you will need the same one, but if you are keeping the stock heat exchangers you will be needing a hose to link from your new duct to the heat exchanger entry tube which pokes through the oval hole in the engine tin. This is the tube which the existing heater duct connects to (the great big plastic duct which comes off your fan). I'm not sure if the hose with part number I quoted is flexible enough for this.

I saw an excellent thread on back dating your heat whilst keeping your stock heat exchangers. If you are indeed keeping the stock HE's it would be worth searching for it.

Has anyone oly done one side? What do you do with the disconnected wires from the blower? My car is an 81 SC

I have done this backdate to my 84 Carrera but I did not use this exact socket. But I can suggest that you ask if this part will clear and fit behind the Larger Carrera distributor. The socket I used was the stock pre-75 one and it did not clear and needed to be modified.

Also worth a mention is that most stock right hand sockets don't fit under the AC bracket if your car has AC. I think the only right hand one that might fit is from the 84-89 turbo cars with AC. I'm currently working on a modification to the stock Carrera right hand block-off cover that will fit under the AC will post pic soon.

Bottom line is be carefull with the left side duct and be sure to ask if it fits and clears the distributor. Then the right side one has issues if you have AC as well.

Put plastic caps on them and tucked them out of the way (in case I or future owner wants to put the heater blower back).

If you plan on doing passenger side heater duct, do not purchase the metal backdate unit if you have air conditioning.

The tube that exits from the backdate metal duct exits out higher than the stock (plastic tube) on the cars (74-89) and AC unit will not fit back on.

Here is the idea for the RHS modification to the orginal tin so that it will allow the AC Comp and Bracket to work. As you can see it was simple to do, I just used a 2" hole saw to cut the tin then epoxyed in a 2" Street Elbow. Then I use the smaller 50mm hose instead of the 63mm stock hose. I also needed the reducer to go from the 50mm hose to 63mm Heat exchanger. I think you get the idea.
