911 Exhaust System Question

I have a recently purchased 1981 911. When I gently accelerate the engine is quiet as a whisper. But, when I accelerate hard the car sounds like a flat head Ford hot rod with glass packs. REALLY LOUD!

Is this a special pressure sensitive by-pass muffler? Too rich a fuel/air mixture?

Computer chip?

Crawl under w/ a camera and post a pic of your muffler. Sounds (ha) like it might be aftermarket, or gutted muffler.
