I have not been able to figure it out HVAC function ? I have been meaning to ask.

It draws in a small amount of air over a thermocouple so that the automatic function of the heater knows how warm it is in the car and can compensate. Take it out once in a while and blow the dust out of it to keep the heater functioning well.

That outlet is only for the European mobile electric cratch slapper. Do not try pluging a US model into this outlet. Ask me how I know.

Ambient temp. sensor. or the ROW cratch slapper, the US models were vertical, not horizontal.
