creative intake system

While looking on ebay the other night, I caught this longhood with a really unusual intake.

Not very good engine pictures, but it looks like a single 2-barrel carb to me. I'm old enough to remember aftermarket 4-barrel intake systems available for 140 hp Corvairs. Being a "purist" (or should I say "broke teenager") , I kept the stock 4 1-barrel set-up on my Corsa; you should've heard it when the secondaries kicked in!

Man, when did I get to be a geezer?

Given the use of the singular in this comment "Carburetor may need to be adjusted", I would tend to agree with you. It looks like someone took the CIS system off and replaced it with the carb. I think that you can see the capped injectors in this picture.

Compared to CIS, it may not be a bad change from an airflow perspective, but I can only imagine what it must be like to start on cold mornings, with the fuel dropping out of suspension through those long cold runners, not to mention uneven fuel delivery to the different cylinders.

Another "hack job" in my opinion. It may work, and it may be cheap, but I doubt that it's optimal. It might be a good negotiation point to drive down the price, or scare off other bidders.

A local-to-me guy has this exact setup on his. The CIS was ripped out leaving a dinky little single carb prior to his buying it. He was "unhappy with the performance" if I recall correctly. :)
