Scissors lift clearance

I just bought house with a 24' x 50' with 8' ceiling. I am in the market for a scissors lift. I keep seeing guys having to build ramps to get their 911's to drive over these lifts. Is there one made with enough clearance to drive a 911 over?

This lift has a 4 3/4" height when dropped.. how much room do you need? Seems like 4 3/4 would be enough???

I have the BendPak MD6XP. The construction of all of the mid-rises that I've seen is very similar. I'd recommend that you just assume that you need to make ramps of some sort. I don't think that looking for one that's low enough would be fruitful for you. Even my BMW 318ti -- not a low car -- needed a few inches more clearance so that the highest part of the lift wouldn't rip open the cat.

Wow! Graced by the likes of Rob. Love your column, coming from a 10+ yr BMW CCA member.

On the lift, I can't even get my E320 over mine. Two stepped 2x8 boards seems to be the easiest solution. Allows for easy parking too.

or...

you could chop a shallow pit into the floor and have the lift installed in it. I have a buddy who has a lift in his garage that way. Parks over it most of the time.

just an idea...

Car underside clearance......

JP,

A typical 911 with Euro height will not clear a folded down scissor lift. The lifting arms will scrape the underside of the car. Solutions: Wooden ramps or build a 4" deep pit to accomodate the lift.
