I am shopping for new wheels for my 88 Carerra and noticed these wheels at tirerack:
http://www.tirerack.com/mycar/baseframeset.jsp?model=911+Carrera+Coupe&make=Porsche&year=1988 These wheels cost $309 for the 17x7.5 size. Does anyone know anything about this brand? I had been thinking seriously about cheap cup wheels (about $280 from Vertex), but am worried about the problems reported by Mikkel and others. A place in CA (upon3racing.com) offered me 17" RUF wheels for about $2k. Look very nice but are rather more expensive than I want to pay. I am wondering how common are quality (such as out of balance) problems with the cheaper cup wheels. |

I have a set of OZ Competition wheels that I bought from tirerack last summer. Been real happy with them. I have a friend with OZ Vela's as well. . .also with good experience. Not sure if they are as light as the megabuck forged wheels but for street and light track use, I'd say go for it. Always worth getting other opinions though.

The OZ Futura wheels are well known in Europe. I think the quality is ok. Yet still one can't feel safe. I have done a lot of research the last couple of days due to the shaking in the steering wheel. My mechanic said that the bigger wheels and lower tire profile you go for, the bigger is the risk that you might feel vibration. He also said that although the cup replicas are of poor quality it should really be possible to cure the vibration.
I agree that it's actually hard to choose when looking for new wheels for a 911. Either it's crap, or too small, or too exspensive or maybe you just don't like one design over another... I wanted Ruf wheels at first due to their design. But they are very heavy and exspensive. |
