1970 T - rear shoulder belts?

Did the 1970 T coupe have rear shoulder belts?

My car came with no rear deck panel and I'm noticing a mounting point for something at each side of the rear deck - looks about the same size as a seat belt mounting bolt...

TIA, Rob

I think only lap belts were available then, but I may be wrong.

Nope - no shoulder belts. The two plastic devices you see on the rear shelf are for luggage straps. The other end of the luggage strap attaches to another device on the vertical panel between the bottom of the rear seat and the floor pan.

Thanks for the info, but it's not the footman loops I'm talking about - closer to the fron of the rear deck and near the door are two threaded holes that look like they accept the same size bolts as a seat belt bolt....

How about a picture? I'd be surprised if it was originally designed for a three-way belt. They had not even legislated seat belt use until well after 1970
(1974 I think). My 86 never came with a three point for the rear; it only had lap belts. I think the later cars can be converted, however don't know about the early stuff.

Yep - need a pic.

Rear seats had lap belts only. Front had lap plus shoulder - the shoulder mounted on the door post. There was also a small hanger just aft of the door post which was used to stow the belt when not in use. No other fastener points back there that I can think of.

Thanks

Sorry - work is getting in the way of the Board.

Have been out to my car. Though I have never had the upholstery off the parcel shelf I can feel a soft spot about where your attachment point is pictured. Have no idea what it is for. 34 years of driving this car and have never heard of this thing.

Your theory seems as good as anything else; will be watching for a definitive answer.

Have you looked in the engine bay on the underside of that area? Wondering if it is reinforced enough to use as a belt anchor point.
If it looks substantial enough, perhaps it would work. You might try the Early S or T Registry and float the question there before you feel safe or assured enough to strap in a child.

I looked at mine (shelf off) and do not see that attachment in that spot or anywhere around there.

1970 911T rear shoulder belts

Those are indeed belt mounts, I believe they were only used for a couple years, they were either for race belt mounts, or certain styles of Euro seat belts. The parts book does show that retractor belts were actually used in Europe before here. I believe there was a style of shoulder belt that used that mount.

My 68 T (euro) has the rear shelf attachment points. In my car, there was a shoulder belt attached there, but I have no idea if it was original or not.

There are also similar welded & reinforced attach points above the rear wheel arch, as seen in this thread.

SWB seat belt attach point rust

I don't know what any of these were used for from the factory.
