Here's a question I've been pondering and I guess this is a suitable thread for it;
A
My plastic grille is lookiing a little faded would it be advisable to paint it as part of the cosmetic restoration of my car, or would it look bad painted because the part is plastic?

Use a plastic paint like that made by SEM. Whatever a local body shop supply has for that purpose will be fine. Maybe wipe your grill down with a rag that's wet with alcohol or an alcohol pad to get rid of any oils and such. Lightly scuff with a Scotch pad and wipe or blow off any dust and crap. Spray a coat of a plastic adhesion promoter made for the paint you're using (follow instructions on can). Then spray your black over that with several light coats.

Don't forget to do your T-bolts, too. Poke them through a piece of cardboard or something so they stand up nice and you don't have to handle them.

Easy peasy. I did mine and it looks new.

Thanks Kev more good advice. I think painting the grille along with the air intake grille just in front of the windshield are two near term projects I can sink my teeth into during the winter hibernation. Will work on figuring out some other ones to keep me busy.

A great product

Hi...I have used SEMs products for many years and their exterior 'Trim' paint for plastic or metal trim parts such as wiper arms is excellent. It leaves a factory finish in both color and sheen.

'. Before scuffing/sanding wash items with hot/warm water well. When dry clean with a Silicon wax/grease cleaner. As already mention use a 'plastic prep'. All can be purchased a your local automotive paint or parts store. You can purchase the paint in quarts/ gallons to spray with a gun or by normal spray bomb type cans.

As a matter of interest, SEM is huge in aircraft interiors repairs for decades such as Boeing's.

Cheers
