I have the original poster on the wall of my shop. the man who helped me build my 911 in 82 sent me the laminated poster for christmas one year.

Looking at all the cool technology there reminded me of the (then) complex 300 SL coupes when they first arrived. Here was a showcase car for MB that would be right at home on the race track (they won lots of sports car races for privateer drivers).
But Porsche found out the 959 was not competitive when they tried the same thing several decades later. Too bad that the rules makers were so hard on Porsche (with good reason given the success record, I imagine!). It would have been terrific to see the 959 live to its potential on the track I specifically did not mention the 961 as that monster never got the development it deserved
