Fortunately, not the SC, but my son's Jeep Cherokee has just been declared a total. Some dirtbag driving a stolen Acura ran a stop sign and my son hit him square in the drivers door with a '97 Jeep Cherokee. The perp got away (bad thing) and no one in my son's vehicle was hurt (good thing). So now I have to spend my carefully hoarded PPD (Porsche Parts Dollars) on another vehicle for the boy to drive. Oh well, at least it will keep me from having tired muscles and dirty fingernails for a while!

Re: State Farm declares D.O.A.......
No collision coverage on your son's car? Did you check your uninsured motorist coverage? Ask your agent to make sure you aren't covered before spending your PPDs on areplacement car for junior. My vote is to get him a nice 98 or older Camry and a part time job. Those cars are indestructible, safe, and don't pose much of a temptation to show off in. They're excellent values too.

Actually, I don't mind putting out some $$$ for a replacement vehicle for my son. He is a student at Georgia Tech, has made the honor roll about every other semester and has a good co-op job. He earns enough during his co-op semester to cover his living expenses for that semester as well as the next school semester. Besides, when he graduates, I will get the car back and will be able to recover my investment. The insurance (State Farm) is paying the fair market value of the wrecked jeep so all I have to add is enough to put him back in something reliable with a good safety rating. Probably another small SUV. Besides, at my house, we don't do rice burners!
