911 SC Alternator

Re-doing the car. Considering replacing the alternator, but want everything to fit back up (like stock) and it appears that the common (these days) alternator is the new or rblt Bosch unit, but it d/n appear that the plastic cooling fairing will fit on to the Bosch unit if I go with that. I currently have a Marschal unit - works but looks beat.

Can somebody give me some opinion here? Rebuild what I have so it all fits back up or buy new/rblt and take my chances. Also looks like the wiring lugs are different on the Bosch.

Thanks guys....

Make it easy on yourself and just rebuild the Marschal. Just use a competant rebuilder.

I agree with Mike. If yours is original, you may want to consider a new voltage regulator too, yours (if original 1978-1980) is external, mounted on the left rear of the engine compartment near the CDI unit. They're available from Pelican.

Specify what you want rebuilt. New bearings, brushes, rectifier diodes and small triad diodes, re-varnish armature, etc. I had mine rebuilt for ~ $140, looked like new.
