I believe this is Karl Tott's firm. He's a Hudson Valley PCA instructor--no longer a competitor--and was my daughter's instructor awhile ago. I rode with Karl at a TracQuest two-day event at Watkins Glen a couple of weeks ago, and he's very fast and competent though only four months younger than I am, which puts both of us itno our dotage. More to the point, he was driving his totally stock 993 super-fast in the red group and said it had thousands of miles and years of track events on it without a hiccup. And he pointed at the car in the next stall--my friend Fred Pack's equally hard-run mid-'80s 911--and said that was his former car, which he'd sold to Pack, and it had been going for years and years as a pure track car equally faultlessly. These ar both cars that Tott has maintained.

Karl is 68 and has been in the business for ages. He is respected and well-regarded.

If you talking about Cheech, I have NEVER heard anything negative about him, and I hear he will stay within your budget, as he is very reasonable.

Hope that helps.....

Thanks guys the shop is owned by Mr. Fernades, and thanks for the input. It will help with making a decision on an engine I'm looking at.

Cheers.

Tim or John:

Would either of you be available to check out an engine they have. If you can I'll PM the details.

TIA

Karl Tott works there. Cheech is indeed the owner.

I had a PPI done by Rennwerke in June 2007 for the purpose of buying an out-of-state car that I couldn't look at myself. Cheech was very helpful on the phone discussing the car, and he seems like a very nice guy, though I don't know if he did the PPI or had one of his lackeys do it.

A number of things were missed that I think should have been noted (completely rusted out front suspension pan, crushed oil lines for front cooler, steering rack sticky and notchy - turned out to require replacement, tranny notchy going into 2nd).

I have yet to write him a letter letting him know of his PPI's shortcomings - by bad (It is on my list of things to do over the holidays) .... so I don't know what his response will be.

How this translates to engine work - beats me....
