My 68 911T dash is in pretty bad shape, I'd like to replace it, however the likely hood of finding a good condition one of that age is pretty remote. SO I'm wondering if I can go to a later year. I know that depending on the year I might end up with no speaker grill and/or a vent in the dash but this car isn't close to stock anyway so I don't mind that. I just want it to fit and look good.

Any way you go, a dash from just about any year in good condition will cost you a bunch of $$$. It's not cheap, but you might think about getting yours rebuilt. Check out

i know your situation as the '68 2 piece design is exclusive to that one year. my dash is in decent shape but does have 2 hairline cracks in it. i plan to have the local auto uphosltery shop recover it in the future. vinyl is approx $16 per yard. plan to remove it and deliver to save on labour. should only be about $200 max. i have re-upholstered the doorcaps and found an excellent match to the original. you can't tell the difference at all.
also, my mechanic said that the later style dashes('69+) can be retro-fitted without too much hassle. good luck, bob '68 911L |

I might try the recover route. However since I'm not worried about originalty I might look on e-bay and see if I can find a later model year.
