![]() Somebody, please give me a quick answer. I have a 70-T which I would to upgrade both tranny and engine. Would a 915 version 74G from a 1986 Carrera be an exact fit. If not what is the engineering involved. Thanks ------------------ simon d 911-t.70 |

you would have to install the 915 shifter ass'y, use a 915 t/o bearing, and use a 73 style release lever and vertical shaft that goes thru bellhousing to release fork. complete axle ass'y, incl. stubs, too. and with a big mallet, enlarge the hump to accept the taller nose of the 915. and the trans mount. 86 trans also has an electric speedo sender, so an elec.speedo is req'd. a lot of stuff!

And on top of all of the above, it's got a 8:31 ring and pinion ratio, which is going to make your earlier car feel very weak at normal driving speeds (although moderately quieter, with a higher theoretical top speed).
I'd get a rebuilt 901 from Vertex in Florida for something like $1,100 with a one year warranty. Or if you're upgrading the engine as well, get the 7:31 ring and pinion model, which I believe was 72-74. I put a 3.6 liter in mine, and the lower gearing of the earlier transaxle makes it a blast at less than 150 mph. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 03-10-2001).] |
