Successfull starter replacement warrants Jack Olsen style portrait.

Dirty, nasty, filthy job, but quite satisfying. I will stop calling myself "newby" and graduate to "somewhat experienced".

I think sometime during the top bolt removal I got to second base with my 70T. I would put it on par with one handed bra removal in high school.

On my 1985 Carrera all it really takes is the "over the top of the transmission" hug. I had to reach over the transmission with my right hand to get to the top bolt. I got a lot of practice because the first rebuilt starter was defective and I got to R&R it right away. That can cause a lot of cussing.

No need to get to second base, a polite hug will do, especially if you have

1. A flexible ratchet
2. A longish 10mm allen socket, with round (ball) end,
3. A wobble extension if needed.

The upper bolt needed an 8mm socket in my case. Maybe because it's a 70?.
