...with a tear in his eye and fear in his heart (pocketbook). well it seems i pushed the limits of a tranny in need of an overhaul. cruising down the freeway and felt the car "binding" up on me. she wanted off the freeway right then and there. she is now at the shop waiting for a diagnosis from tom the master mechanic.
for longer than i care to admit i neglected the first gear growl soon followed by the shuddering take-offs (cracked or burnt flywheel). i paid for it yesterday. strange thing - i planned on putting her in the shop as soon as i got back from my vacation which is next week. so what did i learn yesterday? do not neglect my car when she is giving me the warning signs. better to pay for it now than later. bad owner! i will try and make it right. i hope this info helps anyone thinking it might be time to address that tranny noise. be a better owner than me. i'll post an update after new tranny/clutch. |

Poor, poor Bob. Two of my favorite quotes apply here: Chance favors the prepared mind & If your not paranoid, then your not paying attention...
Very sorry to hear of your "luck" I would be interested in knowing how extensive the damage was. [This message has been edited by VIPRKLR (edited 03-11-2001).] |

No problem, really. It's not your fault.
My 911 popped out of first, curiously, once or twice over a 3 month period in such ways as "it could have been my knee hitting it or something...." Then it lost 1st and 2nd permanently out of the blue. On the other hand, my 901 tranny on my 914 has never had a lube change, and it ground going into 2nd 1st and reverse for 4 years and it's still running fine(the car is on ice at the moment, but not from the tranny--from emissions) Case and point, hard to tell whether you need to look or not to worry. ------------------ Kurt B 1984 911 Carrera Cabriolet |
