Question Strange oil leak

I´m having a strange oil leak on my driver side heat exchanger. I drive the car, park it and during the first day parked I can see a couple of drops on the floor, then on the second day the car is parked I see a small puddle on the floor.
Why would the motor leak more oil after one hole day?
And where should I look for, to stop the leak?

I'm guessing it leaks more after a day because the oil has had time to leak down into the engine from the oil tank.

If it's leaking while it is stationary I'd clean up the area of the leak really well, wait a while and you should be able to see where it is coming from. Good luck.

I too have a strange oil leak, which i have narrowed down to the crank-pully seal or the intermediate shaft seal. Both will be replaced this weekend. Perhaps this is the same situation.

The leaks are strange, indead. During the day it will leak only a couple of drops, even after sitting for 10-11 hours. However, after letting the car set overnight for about 11-12 hours, the leak is much more significant with a large puddle (about 8" in diameter). Is this similar to yours?

I use 20-50w, and understand the viscosity when cold is more apt to leak. However, the car should leak consistently, whether day or night. Shouldn't it? In California, the air temp has not gotten below 50 degrees and not above 70 degrees in the past week. Strange.

Valve covers; oil return tubes? Get some gunk engine cleaner and spray like crazy. Clean it,drive it and park it on a flat surface. Wait and watch. This is what i did on my 72. Just turned out to be a valve cover gasket. Could not tell until i cleaned the underside. Could also be a rocker shaft posistioned incorrectley. They can slide to the left or right and seep oil. This also happened on my car at a later date.

Paul,

I had the same problem with oil from the crankshaft pulley. The oil leaked from the engine while it was running but built up a reservoir in the sheet metal under the pulley then slowly leaked out from there overnight. I bought a new pulley seal and and a gasket for the intermediate shaft. It's an easy fix the only problem can be getting the pulley bolt off - check previous threads. Mine hasn't leaked a drop since. By the way, I had no oil leaking from the intermediate shaft seal so I didn't change it.
