Fan housing extensions, differences?

Hi
I need a new "Fan housing extensions" as I think its called, see picture.

There are some different models through the years.
For the 2.4 its called 911.106.033.00 and for the 3.2 911.106.055.01.

Now the tricky part is that I will be using a 2.4 fan assembly on a 3.2 engine. Which one the extensions should I be using?
Anyone know if the later will bolt up on the earlier fan shroud?

The later is also cheeper.

That is a plastic piece with "fins" to help duct air. It bolts directly to the rear of the housing. I would suspect that the one you want is the earlier one compatible with the 2.4L housing and alternator. It should have six nuts & washers that attach it to the existing threaded studs on the back of the housing.

Magnus,

There are as far as I know two versions, one is from the externally regulated cars and is a cone, basically. The other has a squared-off notch cut out at the 6:00 position to clear the voltage regulator from the 82-on cars with an internal VR.

If you are using a 2,4 fan that means you are using a 2,4 alternator, which is externally regulated, so get the old one.

If you are buying used be careful, these are made of fiberglass and invariably some hack has overtightened the alternator mounting nuts, cracking the fiberglass tabs.

Thanks, thats what I wanted to know!
I was thinking since its part of the cooling there had been some improvments over the years.
