Speedo truth

Hi chaps across the ponds of the world, how do I get the speedo or a possible fix for the speedo in our SC. I would like to at least to know how fast I am going, any ideas or advice would be well taken.....calibration or new dial!!!!!.

Or are they always this way? meaning quite a bit out on accuracy!!!

A GPS will tell you how far off it is. SC speedos sell on eBay on a regular basis.

This guy does good work but is on this side of the pond....the weak exchange rate may help. Good Luck.

I think there is an adjustment screw in the back of the speedo. (I migh tbe wrong) if so make an adjustment and use a GPS to verify the speed. I know mine is 4 mph off. I just drive acordingly.

Most laws regarding speedo accuracy provide that they can be exactly right or up to 10% over, but must not read under. I think all the VDO speedos are at least 10% fast. Whoever answered the phone @ North Hollywood Speedo told me they'd only adjust to factory specs.

Also, if you reduce the rolling diameter of the wheel (e.g. lower profile tires), that'll cause an additional (optimistic) error to be introduced.

PO adjusted my original speedo to read exactly right by taking repeated runs past one of those "your speed is" signs and tweaking the adjuster, so it can be done. When the odo broke, I temporarily swapped in another speedo and was truly shocked at the optimism...

I asked if anyone had used this http://www.blackrobotics.com/ to correct their speedo a while ago, but no-one had. Turns out a guy I work with has one on his Yamaha - he says it works very well.
