WTB: 87-89 Carrera Coupe or Targa

I'm in search of a replacement for my pristine 88 Carrera I lost recently in an accident.

I'm looking for a nice low mileage, unmolested, original coupe or targa Carrera (87-89) that is accident free, no rust, excellent interior, with glossy original paint. Documentation is a big plus.

Typical upgrades such as spring centered clutch with fork upgrade, bilstein shocks, wider wheels, turbo tie-rods, larger torsion bars, etc. are fine and could be a plus with the right car. However I'm not looking to buy someone's DE or track car.

Preferred colors in order of preference are gray, white, silver, red or black. Also lighter interiors are preferred.

Older Carreras (84-86) as well as interesting later model SC's could work if it was something special.

I will pay for a PPI by the shop of my choice which will include a leak down test.

I'm prepared to pay a fair market price for a really nice Carrera.

How long are you willing to wait? I own an 89 coupe that I bought with 49K on it about 9 years ago. I just kind of fell into it. I think if I start getting specific with exact years, colors, documentation, upgrades, etc, I'd still be looking. My advice is to look as long as you want until you get the car that best fits your needs and drive it. If later you find the car the fits every need you want, sell the one you own and buy that one. Life's too short to be Porscheless.

That really is a nice car, and I especially like the interior. And while it's an attractive car, I'm not really interested in paying a premium for a "special edition" model. I would be more interested in suspension and performance upgrades.

The seller mentioned the fuchs were chromed which would be unacceptable to me. I'm guessing they are actually polished instead.

I guess I've got a real hunt on my hands.

That's cool- the 'Silver anniversary' thing either trips your trigger or it doesn't. As for the rims, I am no expert- but here's a close up...I realize they're filthy...

Are they chromed or polished?

You could always swap out the rims and upgrade the rest!

Cheers,

Paul.

They look polished. Most non Porsche onlookers can't understand that you can get the fuchs polished so finely they resemble chrome. The haziness looks like oxidation and they are real susceptible to any kind of cleaners.

I think its a decent time to be a buyer. I scan the markets fairly regularly and there are a decent number of good candidates out there. keep us posted in your search.

Paul.

Paul,

Thanks for the pic! I agree with poster 89911, the fuchs look like they are polished (however there are chromed fuchs out there).

From my research, it appears that original wheels had the typical low sheen anodized look with the centers painted in the same color as the silver body paint. I've got a jpg photo if it would be useful to you.

That car is beautiful. I'm going to PM you.

Joseph:

Personally, I'm a big fan of color-matched fuchs centers. I think they would look fantastic on the SA car- and I expect the polished rims it has on it now are probably quite valuable. Anyhow, I'll be watching for your PM...

Cheers,

Paul.

I have NO affiliation with the seller and I have only given the listing a cursory look. That being said this car might be interesting to you. The auction ends shortly and you might get it at a better price from the dealer after it ends and you've had a chance to have it inspected.

I would not be shocked if this one shows up on VMC site in a week or so.
