Dash, steering wheel and glue ?

I'd like some advice on the stuff in the title...

First the dash insert is mangled on both sides of the steering wheel like so:

Leftover from a clifford alarm & manual oil cooler fan switch... I see that this center pad is NLA. Can I remove just this part without trashing it, trim it a little, and recover it with ultrasuede or early 911 vinyl and then reinsert it ? The Q is about the removal, can it be done easily?

Steering wheel: I have a momo course which is great but does not go well with the retro look I'm converting to. The prototipo is "the" wheel but I am looking for one that is a little dished. Is the stock prototipo dished at all ? Any other that is more pronounced and gets me another inch of clearance from the dash ?

Glue: Even the mighty google is not helpful on this, but it looks like you can glue ultrasuede, aka Alcantara. Can anyone confirm and recommend a glue ? I want to do my door and rear panels with the stuff...

Thanks guys !

Why not find a plug for that size hole (electrical knockout plug, perhaps?), paint it flat black and be done with it?

Or, buy a good used one and replace it. They are out there.

Ok, I found an answer on the steering wheel... Looks like the Momo Mod 07 is what I want. Basically a prototipo but very "deep dish". I am surprised I never caught a thread about it on the board by accident !

As for the dash, I've never seen any replacement for this, and a plug will be ugly...

Anyone on gluing ultrasuede / alcantara, pretty please ?

A stainless kitchen sink plug works perfect in there. I realize its perhaps not up to porsche standards but for less than one dollar its worth trying. Its hardly noticable tucked in behing the column anyway

I think I can help you solve your problem. Is this what you need?

The hazard switch is already removed. If I could only get that control knob off the headlight switch, recovering the dash piece will be easy. Please send reply to atd911@hotmail.com and will figure it out.

Turn the headlight knob counterclockwise (anti-clockwise in England).

How do you get the Ignition back cover off?

Unscrew it, counterclockwise.

Same thing as everyone does....turn it counterclockwise. All the switches on the roller's dash came off easily except this headlight switch's knob. I just came from my car and removed my headlight switch control knob shown below...

It came off using easily using fingertips only. But the knob from the roller won't budge a tiny bit. I shall return to the roller tomorrow and won't accept defeat!!!

The dash pad comes off quit easily, just be patient and pry up to release the contact cement, I have just taken mine off to replace it with one I purchase off of this site (used).

You might want to take a real close look at the switch and make sure yours doesn't have a small set screw holding the knob in place. Some of them do, and twisting them real hard only succeeds in ruining the switch...

Java,

It never occured to me when I was dismantling the car for parts. The roller is almost bare metal now with very few parts in place. Thanks for the tip.
