OK - I'm guessing that this is a Crane Optical Ignition, and that the points have been removed and replaced with an optical pick-up. Therefore, when the timing is adjusted, the dwell does not have to be adjusted.

There must be some ignition experts out there that can confirm this?

It looks like there is some label on the end of the gold CD box that might be helpuful to ID the system. :) :)

I see a Crane PS-91 E-core coil and the Crane optical pickup.
