A/C Questions
 

Greetings,

My '78 SC has an under-dash air conditioner made by an Italian company called Diavia. I live in Florida, and the condensor under the engine lid is the only condensor on the car. I've noticed other 911's of the same vintage that have a condensor that spans the entire length of the grill opening, whereas mine runs slightly over half.

Can I install a larger condensor, and will it improve the performance of the A/C, or would I be better off adding a second condensor? Any other tips on making the A/C cooler?

It sounds like the condenser that is there was designed for the equipment that was installed. However, if the unit is not cooling properly, maybe it is low on refrigerant. It may need to be checked.

On the other hand, look on E-bay. I have seen several condensers for sale there - real cheap. Installing one will reduce temps and pressure on the a/c compressor which should help.

Supply air temp should be about 45F, 40F if it really works good.

Said Diavia AC was an aftermarked unit and made for multi usage ( Covering all 911 from 1963 t0 1989 even 930 ). Sometimes they where installed as an dealer option.

They had an very small italian made compressor mainly one piston.

I would swap the main parts to an rotary vane upgrade as griffith offers them.
R 134 is no question.

You doesn´t have to stick to the Porsche condensors. There are other possibiltys.

I can give you two tips
A) you can install a set of electric fans wire to your compressor and mounted on the condensor
B) you can install a static condensor under carried as wide as the car.
