Replacement of Oil Cross Over Tubes - 3.0

Anyone ever replaced the oil cross over tubes on their engines. These are the collapsable type that look like a toilet paper tube.. and lock in the out position with a snap ring.. One is suppose to open them up and position them in the outlets while under the car... wow.. I am have a hard time.

Have you done? What tools have you used? Need tips.
thanks
Rich

not fun, especially drivers side.

What I did was coat the seals and tube with all kinds of lubricant, and wd 40. Set the tube close to the length that was needed.

Take a set of pliers or vise grips and put on the inner tube a screwdriver blade thickness away from the outer tube ridge with pressure. Be careful not to crush.

Take a large flat screwdriver and place between the outer tube ridge and the pliers and twist. The tube will extend.

Repeat until seated.

Move snap ring into place.

There are many, many threads on this...search for "oil return tubes"....

Here's one example ---> Oil Return Tubes-sucessful project

Look also at the Pelican Tech articles section---> http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_oil_return_tube/911_oil_return_tube.htm

Do NOT use oil or WD-40.Use a silicone grease for the o-rings. WD-40 is especially worthless even as an oil. The WD stands for "Water-Displacement". A fluid to help displace water, like inside distributor caps. Totally worthless in this application.

Great..thank you gentlemen. Just read something about "hose clamps" that I think will work for leverage and spreading the tubes..
Thanks
