Use a local trucking company

I would suggest asking around locally for a trucker who goes that way. It is usually much cheaper using local companies that are hauling freight. I just had my 84 911 hauled from Boston to PEI in a semi trailer that was coming back from delivering a load in Boston. Cost me $450 plus loading /unloading.
Car carriers change $1500 plus for the same trip.
I am sure if you ask anyone who gets freight hauled for their business they could tell you of a local company.

Kevin,
Try Bax Global. http://www.baxworld.com/US.asp
They ship in the USA and Canada as well as between the two countries. Use their "BaxSaver" option as seen on the website. My mechanic uses them for shipping engines and transmissions between the two countries. It should be under $200 to ship and engine. Make sure all oil is out and you tag the engine as having no oil.

Put it on a skid, surround it in cardboard (or wood) and send it by common carrier. That is the cheapest way.
