964 Coupe Rear Window seal - Porsche or after market ?

I found a 964 rear window for my 71 coupe. Now I need a new seal for it, and I try to get some feedback about the Porsche vs any after market seat.

Pelican offers 2, one is Porsche and the other is OEM.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks
Engelbert

URO only makes the 911 front. No 964 rear seal. And yes, the 911 front seal is very nice.

Thanks
Engelbert

Anybody ?

There must be somebody who has done this, either on an 911 or 964.

Thanks
Engelbert

'89 3.2 with 964 rear glass plus 964 Porsche OE seal. Haven't tested it in the wild yet, but it looks / feels good...

Thanks for posting the picture ! It looks really good. You are saying Porsche OE seal.

Pelican has 2:

One is Genuine Porsche and the cheaper one is OEM, I I assume you mean the "Genuine Porsche".

Correct ?

I don't mind paying double if's the better one, I just don't want to do it twice.

Thanks
Engelbert

I am saying Porsche OE seal.

My upholstery / interior guy does the glass installs. He prefers Porsche OE seals, so that's what we went with for the 964 front & rear glass in this '89 3.2. That being said, he's pretty particular with the way the seals fit (to his credit, he doesn't want water ingress damaging his upholstery work and neither do I!) and he said he rejects more OE seals than he keeps nowadays. At least for the front glass, he's returning 3 out of 4 factory new seals. Ugh.

Word of caution:
In late '89, the factory implemented the 964 seal on the 3.2, without the alloy moulding. It implies the 964 glass as well, that is about 5mm larger in both dimensions.

Earlier glass with 964 seal will end up loose in the car.

964 glass with alloy-trimmed seal will not fit (well, or at all).

Yes, I understand that. I already got a 964 class.

I'm going with the Porsche seal.

Thanks for the input.

Yessir. My '89 missed it by THAT (~75 cars) much...

Update, and hopefully this will help some others in the future.

I ordered the Genuine Porsche Genuine Porsche Seal for my 964 rear glass.

It fits nice and was easy to install. I did it by myself. I just removed the rear pop-out windows for access.

Below are pictures with the glass and seal installed. This worked out perfect.

Thanks for all the input.
Engelbert
