Headlights only in high beam position

My 84 Carrera with H4's is permanently stuck with the high beams on regardless of the hi/lo switch position. I replaced the turn signal switch but the problem still exists. Fuses are ok. Any help or advise would be appreciated

Do the fogs go on or are they off (because of the high beams)?

Question: Did you install the H4's?
If so, did you wire in a relay kit so you wouldn't burn out the contacts turn signal switch?
If not, do a search on "sucro relay kit" or "Marcus Sucro". He sells a relay kit with instructions so easy, that even electrically challenged folks such as myself can install it.

something like this happened to my 89 awhile back...turned out to be a small "bar" that gets bent in the stalk mechanism... I bent it back and all works fine...then I remember to not pull or push hard going from highs to lows.. and the "bar" doesn't get bent again.

I agree...must be the stalk assembly. The electrics (at least this system) are fairly simple, and with the fogs not coming on, it appears the stalk is shorted and left in the high position. If you replaced, though, perhaps there is too much current and it burned out the new one?

Also, I don't know if this would cause it, but is it possible that the wires were placed on the new swich improperly? I know there are a bunch of them...I use the one-by-one transfer to the new part method...works for me.

Lemme, say it a little slower....

Hey, if I smelled something nasty before/during my lights getting stuck in high-beam, do I assume a burnout?
Almost passed out from the fumes, got the windows down, was pretty scary - thought car fire!

Shouldn't the fuse have taken it first, or is the fail mode intentionally to not turn the lights out?

I don't know if relays exist, but H4's do. My fogs won't come on either, they were on when I popped on the highbeams.

Thanks,
Todd
